Shopping Mall/Stores

When we look in the past, Kepong has only one place to shop for grocery. Parkson, which is located in the middle of the Kepong Baru morning market definitely brings back some nostalgic memories to those who born before the year 2000. Other than Parkson, the nearest store will be The Store in Plaza Sungai Mas at Jalan Ipoh.

The opening of Desa Complex, which we called it Fajar (the supermarket inside Desa Complex) that time was quite hot and many people spent their weekend there. However, ever since the construction of MRR2, which currently passes right in front of Desa Complex has cause the business in that complex to decrease and eventually many shops and stores ended their business.

The Kepong Parkson on the other hand has also reach it's time and being replaced by a restaurant. The opening of Jusco Kepong has brought a fresh breathe to the Kepong folks to have an option to shop in Kepong instead of travelling far to KL or PJ.

Not long after the opening of Jusco, Carrefour joined the party by opening their branch opposite Jusco, and follow up by Brem Mall and Kepong Village Mall recently.

Residential Areas

The initial settlement in Kepong is concentrated at Batu 7, which is around the two rows of old shops along Jalan Kepong, nearby Jusco Kepong. Not forgetting the Jinjang New Village where the majority of the Chinese immigrants where placed during the State of Emergency by the British back in the past.

The development of Kepong since 1970's has brought up more residential areas like Kepong Baru, Taman Kepong etc. Higher value houses are built around Taman Bukit Maluri and Menjalara has brought up the living quality of Kepong. Followed up by low cost flats around Kepong Tambahan and Metro Prima has definitely increased the population and boost up the commercial value of Kepong.
